FAQs

What types of lessons do you have?

Here at Flying M Stable we specialize in western lessons for beginners to specialized instruction in Ranch Horse, Western Pleasure and rudimentary gaming. We do have an instructor for English lessons as well for flatwork and jumping. We also teach ground work techniques.

How old can children be to take lessons?

At Flying M Stable, we teach independent riding; therefore the youngest age we accept is 8 years old. The youngest riders start with private half hour lessons so that instructors can customize lessons to better help the riders progress at their own pace. There is no age limit at the upper end; however, we do recommend that older riders be able to ride a bicycle. The balance and strength needed to do that is the same for horseback riding.

How do I schedule lessons?

Contact us to check on availability. Depending on openings, we fit riders in group lessons based on skill level and private lessons on instructor availability.  We have  a small lesson program and therefore sometimes there is a need for students to go on a waiting list.

Do you have a weight limit for riders?

The weight limit is 200 lbs.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept checks or cash.

Can I ride with my child in a lesson?

If your skill level is the same as your child's and there is space in the class, you may take instruction at the same time as your child. We also will group siblings together provided there isn't much difference in skill level.

Are lessons ever canceled due to weather?

We do have an indoor arena, which allows us to conduct lessons nearly all the time. The exceptions are during icy or snowy conditions in winter when roads are hazardous, when temperatures are below 25 degrees or above 90 degrees.

Do you board horses for short periods?

Typically we do not board for less than 1 year. Most boarders at Flying M Stable have been here for 5+ years.

Do I have to ride my horse western to board there?

People who board their horses at Flying M Stable are welcome to ride western, English, or bareback or to just cuddle with their horse.

Can my friends ride my horse?

Boarders are permitted to have friends and family ride their horse provided a liability release form has been signed. All children 17 years old and younger must wear a helmet. Children younger than 5 years old may be led on a pony ride. Prior arrangements must be made with the stable staff if an owner permits friends or family to ride their horse while the owner is not present.

How many stalls do you have?

Flying M Stable has 30 stalls.
